America’s Melting Pot; Religion’s Stew Pot

We are at war on our borders, especially our southern border; but like the “Emperor’s New Clothes,” many people prefer to ignore it. Yet ignoring the overflow of illegal aliens streaming across our borders has caused chaos, America’s indebtedness, skyrocketing health care costs, pollution, unwanted crime, increased drug addiction and corruption; not to mention the possibility of terrorists in our midst’s.
Why? The answer is simple: cheap labor and votes. And because of it, we have created a cesspool of corruption rather than a melting pot of differing flavors and views. America is changing. Instead of the “beacon on a hill,” we are fast becoming a third world country. What will be the tipping point: our indebtedness to China, our refusal to use our own natural resources, sky-rocketing healthcare costs, a dependence on government programs to keep our personal lives afloat, an out-of-control border that puts us at the mercy of every country in the world, or all of the above?
Instead of assimilating into our culture and language, we have allowed the aggressors, the law breakers to pull us down to their level. Instead of spending tax dollars on the education of legal residents, we are draining our education resources to educate non-citizens. Our melting pot is fast becoming a sludge pot for indigents, drug lords, lawbreakers and welfare recipients.
“But these people need us,” you say. They contribute to our society. You can’t punish the good people who want a better life for the crimes of a few.”
Are these “good people” willingly breaking the law or not? Do a few “bad apples” eventually spoil the barrel? Does one rotten fish cause a stink that spoils the whole broth? Does the wood bore at the center eventually topple the tree? Millions of wrongs do not make a right.
America was founded on principles of freedom and righteousness. Laws were created. A Constitution was written. If we continue to ignore and shred this solid foundation, we do it at our own peril. America’s independence was hard fought. We were loosed from tyranny into freedom. Will we through our own complacency and lack of knowledge become enslaved again?
There has been much turbulence in the financial markets and in the world in general. Some would link these natural disasters to “climate change” and laugh at those who relate it to prophesied occurrences in the “last days.” Still others have jumped too quickly on the “end of times” band wagon; even predicting the day and the hour of the Lord’s second coming and our own demise making so-called religious people look ridiculous.
“…there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, ‘where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation…But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day….The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance….But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.” (2 Peter 3 KJV)
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father only.” (Matt 24:36)…”Watch therefore; for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come…But know this, that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up…Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” (Matt 24:42-44 KJV)
There are consequences that come as a result of action. This is not only a law of nature, but of God. These natural laws are called eternal truths, and they all have consequences. When we choose to ignore these laws, and look the other way, we are choosing to suffer the consequences of our actions. Not immediately, but over time.
America seems to be suffering from her own willful disregard for law. We have allowed greed, selfishness, and godlessness to overpower our appetite for what is good and pure. We are sinking into a slime pit of consequences and lawlessness.
Sometimes people’s values and belief systems become skewed by succumbing to temptation and lawlessness. Our guilt causes us to look at laws and commandments in new ways. We become “cafeteria Christians” or believers. We choose which rules and laws we are willing to ignore or break, and which ones we can live with.
Many pull scripture out of context and give it their own private interpretation. Then they find like-minded souls and form congregations that feel safe and comfortable. Instead of following Christ or the teachings of the Bible, they concoct their own spiritual “feel good” recipe for worship. They try a pinch of this doctrine, a pinch of that; adding the things that suit their own personal tastes and preferences.
The aroma of their stew pleases them and they like the taste; but to God, the aroma is not a “sweet smell,” which Philippians 4:18 refers to as “an odor of sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God,” but a stink. The taste of their own personal stew pot is an abomination to the Lord who judges our hearts and knows if we are obedient, “hard hearted” or “stiff-necked.”
“Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven….Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works...And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Matt 7:21-23)
Pretty harsh words that indicate we must be “doers of God’s word and not hearers only.” Above all, our hearts need to be right with the Lord, without shame, guilt or guile.
Our country is in turmoil because we not only choose to ignore God’s laws, but our own.
We are ignoring the law of consequences by spending more than we are taking in while at the same time refusing to cut spending. We are in over our heads, yet politicians continue to grandstand their positions and ignore the national debt. How long will it take before the house that Washington built comes tumbling down?
When Jesus finally does come (and he will), unless our hearts and our houses are right with the Lord, we’ll all be in a stew.
